Saunton Golf Club

Saunton Golf Club is situated on North Devon's beautiful coast with the river, sea and golden sands as its background, making it unique amongst golf courses. These advantages are matched by the facilities at the Saunton Clubhouse and the welcome you will find there.

There are two 18 hole courses at Saunton and both are traditional links courses. The East is the recognised Championship course, whereas the West, although shorter in many ways, offers a more exacting test of golf. The Saunton courses are situated on Braunton Burrows which lie between the Taw and Torridge estuary and Saunton Sands. Golf has been played over the natural golfing country of Braunton Burrows for over a century and the Saunton club itself was formed as long ago as 1897.

The quality of the East Course has long been recognised and it is often home to the most prestigious amateur championships. The course was redesigned in 1919 by the famous course designer W.Herbert Fowler and although slight modifications have been made since the war the course is essentially unchanged. It is a true links course with the holes settling in between the dunes with little or no assistance from man.

After a tiring days golf relax in the Clubhouse where full bar and catering facilities are available, or weather permitting, sit on the patio and enjoy watching fellow golfers on the 18th green.

The West Course was originally built in the mid-thirties but was lost as a battle training ground during the Second World War. It was not until 1973 that the decision was made to rebuild the course and the work was completed in 1975. Further changes were made over the subsequent years and the West Course is now also a superb links course, equal in quality to that of the East but having a character of its own and demanding accuracy, with many ditches just waiting to catch the errant shot. There is much to enjoy on the West, a course not to be missed.
