St Mellion Golf Club

St Mellion is Cornwall's golf capital and its two courses are known to be amongst the finest in the county.

The Nicklaus Course

Designed by the man himself the dramatic landscape and immaculate condition of the now legendary Nicklaus Course offers a unique and challenging golfing experience.

The Club owners American Golf describe the course..."Jack's signature is all over the course - high tees with good views of the fairways, water hazards and the requirement to place the ball in the right position in order to score well. Spectator banks line many holes to ensure good viewing and each hole sets its own unique test, with character and beauty, sand and lots of water! Not one of them is mediocre - each will test the best. The greens are magnificent and constructed to the American specification of a sand and peat mix and seeded with special grass imported from America to give a putting surface that probably defies description.

At just over 7,000 yards from the tournament tees and 6,000 yards from the medal tees, the Nicklaus Course provides a truly outstanding test of golf. By building a variation of tee positions, the club golfer can enjoy the course while also giving the professional golfer a more demanding test, and not only did Jack design eighteen great golf holes, he also designed the practice area and driving range situated just above the first tee."

No. of holes: 18
Length: 6651 yards
Par: 72

The Old Course

Offers a gentler but by no means easy challenge..."The "Old Course" at St Mellion is a championship golf course in its own right. It was opened in 1976 and at just under 6000 yards, has many holes which will test the very best golfer.

The long par 4 third can be reached with two good shots. The bunkers are ideally situated to catch anything but the very best shot, making it prudent to position the ball for a pitch to the green.

The twelfth is the most picturesque of the Par three's with the lake being quite intimidating to the nervous player - however, to hit the green is most satisfying!

The Old Course is a delightful course with wonderful scenery, and extremely popular with both Members and Visitors of all handicaps alike".

No. of holes: 18
Length: 5782 yards
Par: 68
