The Cascades at Soma Bay Golf & Country Club, Hurghada, Egypt
The Cascades is Soma Bay's Golf and Country Club which provides a sporting and social focal point for the peninsula's community, centering on one of Egypt's most stunning desert links-style golf courses.
The Gary Player designed course is the first in many ways in Egypt. Not only is it the first golf course open for play on the Western Red Sea coast, it is the first Championship Course in the Middle East designed by one of the "Big Three" (Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer). The 18 hole, par 72 course offers memorable views of the lush green fairways that contrast dramatically with the rugged desert and the clear blue sea waters.
At the inaugural tournament, Gary Player described the course as "the next Pebble Beach." In his book Gary Player's Top Golf Courses of the World, his personal selection of 55 of the most memorable golf courses around the globe, The Cascades Championship Course was referred to as "the Red Sea Treasure." The Cascades was recently ranked the Number 1 golf course in the world outside of Europe for the second year in a row by the readers of "Golf Journal".
The Cascades Club House located at the golf resort, La Residence des Cascades, that sits at the center of the Championship Course, includes extensive changing room facilities with showers, golf lockers available for rent by the day or week, a wide range of golf merchandise at the Pro Shop as well as essential rentals; golf clubs, trolleys & electric carts. A free shuttle bus service is available from all the hotels at Soma Bay to The Cascades.
