Arkley Golf Course
Rowley Green Road, Arkley, Barnet, Hertfordshire, EN5 3HL
Arkley was founded in 1909 and officially opened by Lord Enfield on 17th August 1909 some five months after construction had started. Twenty years later, James Braid redesigned the course with 9 holes and 18 tees which makes the back 9 entirely different from the front.
The course has many mature trees isolating it from road noise and has extensive views over South Hertfordshire. The standard scratch score and par are both 69, the length of the course being 6046 yards. When you first hear that Arkley is 'only' a nine hole course, take no notice. The course is laid out so that there are in fact 18 holes, the back nine being greatly different from the front nine.
The Clubhouse has a comfortable lounge, changing rooms, showers, bar & dining room. There is an extensive bar menu and a full "a la carte" menu on Thursday evenings. Members and Visitors are required to change from golf clothing before using the lounge areas, however a "stud bar" is available for those coming straight off the course.
