Bamburgh Castle Golf Course
The Wynding, Bamburgh, Northumberland, NE69 7DE.
Highly Commended - Golf World Top 100 UK Golf Courses 2008
Gorse, heather, whinstone, wild flowers and seaside turf all emulsified to paint an indelible memory of Bamburgh Castle's course awesome 360 degree views of Lindisfarne, The Cheviots, The Farne Islands and Northumbria's signature Bamburgh Castle.
Sculptured into Kittling hillside in 1904, it's early development owed much to the patronage of Bamburgh Castle's owner Lord Armstrong, but the land is now owned by the club itself. Today's course is however much as it was when golf was first played on it a century ago and although only 5,621 yards off the back markers, it remains a trickey test for golfers of all standards. It is worth noting that the greens are fast and true so beware when putting as it is easy to be caught out.
The wood panelled bar has stunning views and has the hum of contentment generated from the friendly membership and astounded visitors. It is no wonder that Golf World once described this course as - 'quite possibly the most beautiful and most beautifully situated golf course in All England'.
