Erewash Valley Golf Club Stanton-by-Dale, Near Ilkeston, Derbyshire, DE7 4QR
Formed in 1905, the Erewash Valley Golf Club fully deserves its reputation as a top class golf course. An excellent and scenic use of natural features provides enjoyable year round golfing, and will test the skills of all standards of golfer. The well maintained 18 hole course along with the welcoming clubhouse is a favourite with golfing societies and for corporate days out.
The course consists of twenty holes as two of the holes are substituted during the wetter, winter months. During this period, the two quarry holes are taken out of play and the winter configuration sees play move to 'The Spring' and 'Dallager'.
The course has very little rough but players will be wise to keep their drives straight due to extensive tree planting and the wooded areas of the course. It is possible to go out of bounds at ten of the holes, and with two blind drives and water coming into play at other holes, there are plenty of obstacles to hold the players concentration.
'Memorial', at 565 yards off the White Tees, is one of the longest opening holes in England and was named in honour of former club members who lost their lives in the two world wars. The two quarry holes are without doubt unique. Created in the early years of the club, these are played into, and within an old Victorian sandstone quarry. With the passing years and nature being able to take a hold of the quarry, the area is very picturesque and is one of the highlights of the course.
