Golfing holidays and golf breaks in England.
Welham Park, Malton, North Yorkshire, YO17 9QE
Designed by Martin Hawtree & Son, Malton and Norton Golf Club first opened its doors to golfers in 1910 and, ever since, has been a popular venue for fans of the game in Yorkshire. Today, it is a considerable 27-hole course that is arranged in three contrasting loops of nine providing challenges and enjoyment for members and visitors alike.
The Club was founded in 1910 and in 1923 moved to its present site. A nine hole course was constructed and thus began a long history of development and progress. Further land was subsequently purchased, a Professional appointed, new clubhouse built and in 1970/71 the Welham course you play today was opened.
From then on development was rapid. Some ten to fifteen thousand trees have been planted; greens extended; additional bunkers created and others enlarged. A new dyke - "The Mansell Burn" - not only assists essential drainage but is also a real feature of the 10th, 13th and 14th. Stone bridges across the Mansell Burn and other streams have added even further to the character and charm of this fascinating course.
1991 brought the opportunity to buy further land, enabling the Club to build the new nine hole course. Once again staff rose to the challenge and with only modest specialist help built this exciting addition. Not quite as long as the other nine hole loops the challenge it offers is in no way diminished, accuracy being the order of the day.
The course further benefits from superb panoramic views of the moors, located as it is just outside of the popular tourist town of York.
