Pannal Golf Club Follifoot Road, Pannal, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, HG3 1ES
Pannal Golf Club lies to the south of Harrogate amidst glorious countryside. The course was designed by Sandy Herd, the 1902 Open Champion, in 1906. In 1935 it underwent further reconstruction by Major Charles Mackenzie, the renowned golf course architect. The course which resulted has stood the test of time, challenging players of the highest ability to this day. The total yardage of the course is 6622 with a par of 72.
Superb views further enhance the course which is laid out on a stretch of gorse-covered, tree-lined land. To the west in Wharfedale, the landmark Almscliffe Crag, to the north the Crimple Valley and viaduct made famous in Turner's painting and to the east, the rolling plains of York with views on a clear day of the Minster.
Pannal is very much a driver's course. If you can keep it on the fairway, then more likely than not you will have a good round. Most of the trouble is off the tee. The course is generally in immaculate condition and there are some cracking holes - notably the par 3 third which is a great test of concentration and accuracy with its long narrow green, three large bunkers lurking to the left and a considerable slope to the right; and the 17th - one of the best Par 3s in Yorkshire.
