The Monmouthshire, with a history stretching back to the 1890's is one of the best in the South Wales area. It is surrounded by so much colour and is is unquestionably a hidden gem. Ross-on-Wye is a very scenic and quite undulating woodland type golf course, its fairways bordered by a rich variety of silver birch trees, oaks and pines: you can play a round here and only rarely see another group of golfers so self-contained are the holes. St Pierre has hosted the Dunlop Masters and the Curtis Cup and in 1996 it staged the Solheim Cup between the USA and Europe. The course has seen many improvements recently. Professionals and amateurs alike find the 18th across a lake and uphill towards the ancient chimneystacks both daunting and memorable.
The Best Western Pengethley Manor has 25 Standard and Superior en-suite guest rooms which all offer a full range of in-room facilities and services such as colour TV, direct-dial telephone and a tea and coffee making tray and a full room service menu. Each has been individually decorated and furnished. Many of the rooms are furnished with fine period pieces and some of the Superior rooms have four poster beds and others a spa bath. The warmth and grandeur of the Georgian Restaurant is only exceeded by the astonishingly high standard of cuisine, for which the hotel has won many accolades, and the fine wines, some of which are produced in their own Vineyard.
