Metropole Hotel, Padstow
An Itinerary for the Connoisseur - to play courses such as St Enodoc, Trevose and St Mellion within the course of a couple of days, requires guts, determination and a well controlled temper, but provides a truly excellent golfing experience. Both St Enodoc and Trevose are regarded by many as the two finest links courses around the south west coast (members at Saunton, might disagree!) and if budget is not too much of a concern, should certainly be visited. The Nicklaus Course, which for so many years hosted the Benson and Hedges Open, is as hard a parkland course test as you will find in the West Country. Accuracy is essential, not to mention a healthly stock of balls - just in case!
The Metropole is an imposing Victorian building perched majestically on the crest of a gentle hill, overlooking the popular Cornish village of Padstow. In addition to being one of the county's prettiest fishing villages, Padstow is best-known for its seafood, which features, of course, on the hotel's AA Rosetted menu.
