Caen Golf Club
After giving an example of his talent with the flat and woodland Le Vaudreuil Golf Course, the architect Fred Hawtree designed a second success here at Caen in a completely different setting made up of wide spaces taken from the Caen plain, broken by a deep wooded valley and designed with three water hazards.
Created in 1990, Caen Golf Course has 27 holes. The 18 hole "plain-valley" course with its 6155 metres is testing if you are open to the wind. The first two holes are tricky by being both narrow tree-lined water holes. You will pay heavily if you are too ambitious or off line. Several difficult Par four's follow of more than 400 metres.
After a difficult and slow start during it's first year mainly due to drought, Caen Golf Course has seen it's vegetation change. It's landscape has improved and the whole setting is taking on another appearance.
Since 1996, Caen Golf Course has a very technical nine hole "wood-valley" course. Even though this nine hole course is perfectly sheltered it does not allow for any risks; drivers or 3 woods are not advised. Holes 3,4,6 and 7 are a true challenge. Six of the nine holes are all very narrow and in the forest and four of those six feature fearsome dog-legs and need a perfection technique.
