Friday 19th November

Welcome to the Garden Route
The Garden Route has in recent years become an oasis of fantastic golf courses. Fancourt, Pezula, George, Oubaii, Pinacle Point are five of the best and there are many more. The Simola Golf Estate, however, along with Fancourt, leads the pack. Not only is the golf course fantastic, the hotel is of the highest quality and the panoramic views across the forest, the Knysna Lagoon and towards the ocean are simply breathtaking. Without hesitation, we chose to return to this wonderful location. Two rounds will be played at Simola, and one at my favourite golf course on the Garden Route, Plettenberg Bay. Although Plett, as it is fondly known, does not have the international reputation of the courses mentioned above, it is a genuinely good golf course, which tests the basic skills of the game. Always a super day, the golf experience compliments so well some of the other golf course challenges to be enjoyed on the tour

Simola Golf Club
Simola Golf Club, along with the Outeniqua and Montagu courses at Fancourt, are without a doubt the leading golf courses on the Garden Route. The setting of Simola is just stunning. The course itself has been superbly designed. The fairways merge seamlessly together, there is lush, indigenous vegetation all around, the surrounding forest creates an evocative vista of undulating green hills and dales that descend gently down to the Knysna River. Simola really is an iconic golf course

Sunday 21st November

Plettenberg Bay Golf Club
From Knysna we head eastwards along the Garden Route to the wonderful town of Plettenberg Bay. Famed for its amazing beaches and fantastic setting, the Plettenberg Bay Golf Club compliments the town to a tee! Set in a private nature reserve, the highly rated course has lush Kikuyu grass fairways and bay view greens which provide an excellent playing surface. As stated above, Plettenberg Bay is a traditional golf course, fair to players of all abilities and where we are always assured of a super day on the fairways and greens

Monday 22nd November

Simola Golf Club
A second round on the Simola course and with every justification. From its vantage point, the 325-hectare golf course looks out over the spectacular panorama which encompasses the full expanse of the Knysna Lagoon, all the way to the Heads and beyond to the sea. The second round at Simola will confirm the inevitable conclusion that we have played one of the finest golf courses in the world

Tuesday 23rd November

Onto the Winelands
Today we head west to the Winelands and the wonderful setting of the Erinvale Estate Hotel & Spa in Somerset West. The road journey from George to the Winelands, although very interesting, can be long. For those members of the party wishing to avoid the road journey, an internal flight from George to Cape Town and a transfer to the hotel can be arranged for a small supplement. When we check into the Erinvale Estate Hotel we will find exquisitely furnished bedrooms, superb facilities, excellent cuisine and one of the finest golf courses in the Cape on our doorstep. The stay at Erinvale is certain to be an excellent one

Wednesday 24th November

Erinvale Golf Club
Erinvale hosted the 1996 World Cup Golf. The front 9 holes are built on flat terrain with challenging holes made more difficult by strategic water hazards and an array of different style bunkers. The back 9 holes are on undulating high ground. Again, water and bunkers are the main features with added test of sloping lies

Thursday 25th November

Pearl Valley Golf Club
The Jack Nicklaus-designed Pearl Valley championship golf course, in the heart of the Cape Winelands, is set against the stunning backdrop of the Drakenstein Mountains. It is one of the most visually spectacular golf courses in the world - and one of the most challenging in Africa. Frequent host to the South African Open, the course has become a true favourite over recent years. And with Franschhoek, a fabulous Winelands town, just down the road, a day at Pearl Valley and exploring the immediate area, is one that will not easily be forgotton

Friday 26th November

De Zalze Golf Club
A great favourite of ours over the years. The De Zalze course is overlooked by the towering Helderberg Mountains and surrounded by rolling vineyards and orange groves. The Blaawklippen River meanders through the course and each of the 18 holes offers its own unique challenge. Always a great favourite when we are in the Winelands region

Saturday 27th November

Onwards to Cape Town
Cape Town is arguably one of the most beautiful cities in the world and with every justification. To stand at the top of Table Mountain and take in the 360 degree panorama is quite simply breathtaking. But it is not just Table Mountain, it is the culture, the scenery, the wine, the cuisine, the beaches - and of course the golf! Basically, Cape Town has it all ..and more! We will be staying at the Commodore Hotel on the V&A Waterfront. With its nautical theme, superb service and some magnificent views of the harbour and Table Mountain, the Commodore provides a superb accommodation base for this leg of the tour. The drive from Somerset West to Cape Town is only 45 minutes and as such we will use this day to explore some of the wonders of the Wineland region and the Cape Town itself

Sunday 28th November

King David Golf Club
Kind David Golf Club may not be the toughest golf challenge in the Western Cape, but it is one that is enjoyed by all who play it. Back by popular demand, if you haven't played it before, you are in for a wonderful days golf

The majority of UK bound flights leave from Cape Town International Airport in the evening; hence there is the opportunity for a last day of sightseeing, shopping, relaxing or indeed another round of golf! At the appropriate time you will be transferred to Cape Town International Airport to commence the journey home. However, if you are not quite ready to return to winter, join me for a Game Reserve extension at the Bushman Sands Resort in the Eastern Cape.
