County Kerry boasts many of the top European golf courses, but also features a number of lesser known ones, but courses which are still a delight to play.
Beaufort Golf Club is one such example, a beautiful, scenic, parkland course which compliments its more famous neighbours. Dooks Golf Club, where golf has been played since 1889, is another wonderful course and is set out on one of the three stretches of sand dunes at the head of Dingle Bay - a majestic and tranquil environment in which to enjoy good golf. One of the most famous names in Irish golf is Killarney, where one finds three classic parkland courses, Killeen, Mahony's Point and Lachabane. We suggest playing the Killeen Course, venue of the 1991/1992 Irish Open Championship and host to the 1996 Curtis Cup. The Course is nestled amidst the serene splendour of the famous Lakes of Killarney in the shadow of the majestic Macgillycuddy's Reeks. To complete the golf tour, we suggest playing at Ring of Kerry Golf Club, which is a marvellous spectacle of imposing, yet inviting golf.
The Castlerosse Hotel & Leisure Centre is one of the most deluxe 3 star hotels in Killarney! Only a little over a mile from the town centre, it borders the National Park on one side and Killarney Golf Course and Fishing Club on the other. The lakeside setting of the hotel is truly magnificent with splendid views of lakes and mountains, especially from the restaurant and panoramic bar. The pastoral and wooded landscapes provide idyllic lakeside walks through the hotels own grounds and the adjoining National Park.
