Golfing holidays and golf breaks in Ireland.
Druids Glen Golf Club Newtownmountkennedy, Co. Wicklow, Ireland
Voted No. 44 in the Golf Monthly/HSBC Top 120 UK Course Rankings - November 2006
The emergence of Druids Glen golf course as one of Ireland's premier parkland courses has been nothing short of astonishing. Opened in 1995 it hosted the Irish Open Championship from 1996-1999.
The owners comissioned Pat Ruddy and Tom Craddock to design a spectacualr golf course in the grounds on an old estate. The budget was unlimited and the two master craftsmen produced a design that is referred to as the Augusta of Europe. Already a peaceful and scenic location, the name derives from a stone altar used for pre-Christian worship, the golf course now incorporates stunning floral displays at every turn.
The owners and designers were greatly aided by their chosen location, four hundred acres of gently rolling, wooded countryside, in one of Ireland's most beautiful counties. Golfing perfection was achieved whilst remaining faithful to the graceful maturity of the original estate and it's wildlife.
Eamonn Darcy, Ryder Cup player and touring professional at Druids Glen Golf Club, assesses the course as "a remarkable golf course unlike any seen in Europe until now. It is both technically demanding and a pleasure to view. A great experience for champion and club golfer alike".
