Fota Island Resort

Fota Island Resort

Highly Commended - Golf World Top 100 UK Golf Courses 2008

Fota Island sits tranquilly in Cork Harbour, just a short drive from Cork City. Ideally located in Ireland's southwest, Fota Island's great golfing neighbours include the likes of Ballybunion, Killarney and Waterville to name just a few.

A traditional parkland golf course, Fota Island is kept in immaculate condition year round and consists of 27 holes, divided into 3 seperate courses - namely Deerpark, Belvelly and Barryscourt. The club is located within a 780 acre estate, which also houses the Fota Island Wildlife Park and is included in the "Inventory of Outstanding Landscapes of Ireland", while the splendid woodland and water features combine to create a challenging layout.

Arguably one of the finest golf course challenges in the region, Fota Island Resort was the venue for the 2001 and 2002 Murphy's Irish Open. A classic championship venue, Fota has also hosted the Irish PGA Championship and no fewer than three Irish Amateur Opens, and most recently the Irish Seniors Open in June 2006.

The splendid woodlands are woven into a challenging course which is very much in the traditional mode, featuring pot bunkers and undulating putting surfaces.

In addition, Fota Island Resort boasts a state of the Art Golf Academy featuring the GASP swing analysis system and the SAM Puttlab. An exciting new nine championship holes in keeping with the existing course opened in 2007. The new nine holes feature a world class layout with some very challenging features to test the most competitive golfer.
