Golfing holidays and golf breaks in Ireland.
Oughterard Golf Club Oughterard, Co.Galway, Ireland
Oughterard makes for a really pleasant day of golf. Situated in one Connemara's most delightful villages, it has a nice variety of holes to suit the better player and novice alike.
The club is situated adjacent to the 15th century Aughnanure Castle, 15 miles west of Galway city en route to Connemara. It is a delightful eighteen-hole course, excellently maintained for the discerning golfer. Mature trees demand thought and accuracy from the tee, and elevated greens require precision and patience. The relatively short front nine injects a false sense of security which is quickly deflated on some very testing holes over the inward nine, leaving the player with memories of a fair but demanding course.
Generous lush fairways bordered by mature trees and woodlands are a feature of this delightful and excellently maintained course. Stone walls reflect a bygone era when the lands once belonged to the ferocious O'Flaherty clan of nearby Aughnanure Castle. The clubhouse, converted from majestic farmhouse buildings, offers visiting golfers every modern facility, including a well-stocked pro shop, a first class restaurant and a homely and welcoming bar.
