Palheiro Golf Course
This beautiful course is situated in woodland in the hills to the east of Funchal, just 15 minutes from both Funchal and the airport. Boasting fantastic views over the bay and the city, this 18-hole, at 72,6 metres above sea level course was designed in 1993 by Cabel Robinson, and is skillfully set within the gracious parkland of the Quinta do Palheiro Ferreiro.
Due to its high altitude in the mountains, golfers are not handicapped by summer heat, often experienced on the mainland.
The course combines natural geographical features with modern construction methods to produce a unique course of international reputation. Remarkable for tight fairways, fast greens and judicious use of the beautiful trees that cover the hillside, it is a worthy challenge for all handicap levels and has often been described as 'One of the most beautiful places in the world in which to play golf'.
Palheiro Golf Clubhouse has a unique open plan design, which is both spacious and welcoming and has one of the best views on the island. It sits high above the bay of Funchal and has panoramic views over the mountains and Atlantic Ocean; views which can be enjoyed from the veranda whilst sipping a post round drink.
