Pinheiros Altos Golf Course
With two distinctly differing nines, 'The Pines' and 'The Lakes', Pinheiros Altos provides a real golfing challenge. The outward nine, as its name suggests, meanders through typical Algarvian pine woods. The second nine is much flatter but the holes work their way through a series of lakes requiring accurate driving and precise iron play. The greens have a reputation for being the most difficult to read and to hit because they are small and undulating and usually in very good condition.
The course embraces part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, and holes of note include the par 3 5th played across a valley full of umbrella pines to a heavily contoured green, and the 12th, a par 5 that requires careful positioning of shots to avoid a watery grave.
The course has gained a reputation as the favourite pre-season practice ground for several of today's top professional golfers. They are drawn to the large practice ground which includes three putting greens, areas for bunker, chip shots and several greens.
