Edzell Golf Club

Edzell Golf Club

High Street, Edzell, Angus, DD9 7TF

Edzell Golf Club lies at the gateway to the Grampians in the foothills of the Angus Glens. Indeed the mountains form a backdrop to this lovely heathland/parkland course which is located in the beautiful village of Edzell, midway between the cities of Dundee and Aberdeen.

Four of the holes over 420 yards and originally par 5s perhaps present the main challenge. After a gentle start, the second hole poses a severe test, a 446 yard par 4 with out of bounds on the right and behind the green. The second shot is played blind over a ridge to a bunkered green. At the 9th, the river West Water comes into play and must be avoided if par is to be achieved.

Originally heathland, the course has a parkland feel to it as a result of a tree planting programme over the past 25 years. Edzell certainly provides a peaceful round of golf in picturesque surroundings.

In Golf Monthly - June 1999 - the course was considered to have no weaknesses and that "golfers visiting the Angus area can't afford to miss what is one of Scotland's true hidden gems".
