Glasgow Golf Club Gailes Gailes, Irvine, Ayrshire, KA11 5AE
Highly Commended - Golf World Top 100 UK Golf Courses 2008
This course resides on a marvellous stretch of links land between Troon and Irvine on the Ayrshire coast. Dating back to 1892, Glasgow Gailes is the seaside course of Glasgow Golf Club. The Club which was founded in 1787 and is the 9th oldest golf club in the world also owns the Killermont course 30 miles away in Glasgow. With its undulating fairways, fine greens and subtle qualities, Glasgow Gailes is an honest test of golfing skills in true links fashion.
While the course lies approximately a half-mile from the shore, rest assured that this does not protect the golfer from the usually strong, swirling and often Machiavellian, firth winds. The inherent challenge of Glasgow Gailes is stiffened by its heather-lined fairways, which when in full bloom during summer months often results in heartbreak for the less than accurate strike.
As a designated Open Championship qualifying venue, the condition and playing characteristics are second to none, with each tee presenting a unique challenge. It has also hosted such events as the British Youths (won by Lee Westwood just before he turned professional), the British Seniors and the Scottish Amateur.
With a warm reception assured, excellent club facilities, practice area, pro shop and catering, you are sure to enjoy your visit to Glasgow Gailes.
