Monifieth Golf Club Monifieth Links, Princes Street, Monifieth, Angus, DD5 4AW
1999 saw the return of the Open Championship to the magnificent Championship Course at Carnoustie. This meant for the third time the Medal Course at Monifieth would be used as a Final Qualifying course. The Medal has again been elected by the Royal and Ancient GC of St. Andrews as a final qualifying course for the 2007 Open Championship.
The Medal Course is a natural mix of heathland and links with a fair share of hazards including new deep riveted bunkers. The well grassed narrow, running fairways, lush semi-rough; penal heavy rough and fast consistent greens will test any standard of golfer.
The fine fescue and bentgrass mix greens are generally large and flat, but feature enough subtle burrows to test one's green-reading skills. Adding to the scenery of the layout, which was actually called "the most scenic links on the east coast of Scotland" in a 1991 Golf World article, are the stately pine trees lining so many of the fairways and framing the back sides of nearly every green.
As you make your way up the 18th fairway, in view of the five golf clubhouses and numerous pubs and shops across the narrow street, you cannot help but feel a part of the history of the place.
