Golfing holidays and golf breaks in Scotland.
Panmure Golf Club Barry, Carnoustie, Angus, DD7 7RT
The club was formed in 1845 and is another Open Championship qualifying course. Panmure is no ordinary course and accurate driving and iron play between the sand hills are essential, while the greens offer subtleties of borrow and slope to test your putting. Panmure will host Final Qualifying for The Open in 2007 which is being staged at the neighbouring course in Carnoustie.
The glory of the course lies in the par 4's with no fewer than 10 holes of between 360 and 418 yards, all of them good. The initial flat 3 holes give way to some classic contoured terrain which makes for a memorable course but beware of the gorse! The par 4 sixth in particular is as testing a golf hole as you will play in Scotland. Hogan secretly practised here before proceeding to win the Open at Carnoustie in 1953.
The course is seldom easy, but it is a fair test of golf, and calm judgement, coupled with boldness at the right moments, will be rewarded. Whatever befalls you on the venerable links, you are assured of a memorable and enjoyable day.
The very comfortable clubhouse and attentive staff will make your visit complete.
