Powfoot Golf Club Cummertrees, Annan, Dumfriesshire, DG12 5QE
The golf course at Powfoot Golf Club was designed by none other than James Braid at the beginning of the 20th Century, with the inception of the golf club occurring in 1903.
The 6255 yards, Par 71, part parkland, part links course, winds its way through an extensive plain of sand. The greens are ample in size, with gorse and large bunkers providing the main hazards for errant shots.
Defined by its gorse lined fairways, Powfoot is a scenic treat and a good test of anyone's golfing ability. Feature holes include the well bunkered par-3 7th, par-4 9th with its World War II bomb crater and the signature hole, the par-4 11th. During the summer months, Powfoot is typical bump and run territory. When the wind blows off the Irish Sea and the Solway Firth, the golfing prowess of even the best golfer will be severely tested.
The reputation of Powfoot as a Championship Course, is forever growing, following the hosting of the 1998 British Senior Ladies Open and the 2002 BP Scottish Girls Amateur Matchplay Championship. All in all, Powfoot is an excellent venue for all types of golfers, whether they be the ardent holiday golfer wishing to experience a taste of the "Home of Golf" or the casual visitor who wishes to take in the panoramic views of the Solway estuary, bounded by the Lake District Mountains to the South and Criffel to the West.
