Best Western Station Hotel
The Best Western Station Hotel is one of the best hotels in Dumfries. Comfortable accommodation and excellent food make it the perfect base for the courses in the area.
We have suggested Powfoot on Day 1, a part parkland, part links course, which winds its way through an extensive plain of sand. The greens are ample in size, with gorse and large bunkers providing the main hazards for errant shots.
Arguably the best known course in the area is Southerness. Wild dunes, an abundance of heather, dense bracken and gorse all present themselves here, as do the twisting, tumbling fairways and firm fast greens. From the championship tees the links can be stretched to 7,000 yards. Several of the par fours measure in excess of 400 yards, with huge carries to match and two of the par 3's are well over 200 yards long. Southerness is as many of the other Scottish links, terrifying but wonderful.
To complete the golfing itinerary, we have suggested playing Dumfries & County. a privately owned parkland course situated on the outskirts of the town of Dumfries. Bordered on one side by the River Nith, it offers spectacular views of the Nith valley and surrounding countryside.
