Clyne Golf Club

Clyne Golf Club

118-120 Owls Lodge Lane, Mayals, Swansea, SA3 5DP

At the entrance to the beautiful Gower Peninsula, designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty, lies Clyne Golf Club. The championship course enjoys commanding views in all directions, overlooking Swansea to the east, the Bristol Channel and Mumbles to the south, the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons to the north and the commanding heights of Gower's Cefn Bryn to the west.

Designed by Harry Colt in the 1920's, the course presents a fine test of golf to all levels of handicaps. Colt's design and influence can also be seen at Sunningdale, Muirfield and Royal Lytham & St. Annes, as well as many other courses around the UK & the world. The original layout at Clyne established all the important features and it is to the credit of the architects that the course has remained virtually unchanged to this day.

The course is laid out on the high ground of Clyne Common about three to four hundred feet above sea level. The turf is of the moorland type, although gradually changing in character over the years as a result of fertilisation. There are, owing to the undulating ground, many natural hazards, apart from the large number of bunkers. There is also gorse and bracken in profusion, with some strategically planted trees. The greens are often regarded as being amongst the best in Wales.

The Clubhouse has large panoramic windows upstairs. From the restaurant/ bar area one can sit and watch players on the 9th and 18th greens as well as the 10th tee area.
