The Angel Hotel 15 Cross Street, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, NP7 5EN
This is one of the very best Itineraries in terms of the quality of the golf courses. We rank it equal to the Broadstone, Isle of Purbeck and Ferndown Itinerary and there are very few others, if any, that would exceed its quality.
Set in 140 acres in one of the most beautiful areas of Gwent, Woodlake Park overlooks the spectacular Llandegfedd reservoir, the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains and the Vale of Usk. The Monmouthshire, with a history stretching back to the 1890's is one of the best in the South Wales area. It is surrounded by so much colour and it is unquestionably a hidden gem. Put simply, the Rolls of Monmouth Golf Club is one of the great golf courses. Set in the grounds of the Rolls Estate, the former country home of Charles Stewart Rolls, who together with Henry Royce, founded the famous Rolls Royce Company. The course itself is one of two halves, being laid out on opposite sides of the estate. The front 9 presents such challenges as the 5th where a deep ravine is located just before the green, the 6th is over 500 yards and requires a lake and a stream to be negotiated. On the back 9, the 11th is a wonderful downhill sweeping hole, the 15th has a sharp dogleg and the 18th with its water challenge makes for an intriguing finish.
The beautiful Angel Hotel is situated in the heart of Abergavenny. The Hotel was a great coaching inn on the London to Fishguard road and has been privately run now since 2002. At Abergavenny's centre, it combines friendly and attentive service with an elegant decor. AA three stars, and the award-winning cuisine has an AA rosette.
